A Gold Calculator uses purity to adjust the estimated value. Imagine two rings that both weigh 10 grams. One is 22K and the other is 18K. They do not contain the same amount of pure gold. The 22K ring contains a greater percentage of gold, so its raw gold value will generally be higher when the weight is the same.
